Week X: "What a piece of work is man!"
Hamlet appears to have a very high option of men. According to Hamlet, man is almost godlike, having the "...apprehension...", understanding, "...of a god!" To him, man is "The paragon of animals." even "The beauty of the world." Yet in the same soliloquy, Hamlet says that we are the "quintessence of dust". This is why men and women do not interest him, they are dust. This has fragments of a christian worldview. We are the "quintessence of dust", God created us from dust, and to dust we return when we die. We are "The paragon of animals." No animal can match our skill and intellect. But the understanding of a god? Not quite. All in all, Hamlet has some good points, but falls short on many issues.

Where at in the play did you quotes? Where my BHOI told me to look it was irrelevant to the question. Which edition of BHOI do you have?
ReplyDeleteThe BHOI reference was wrong according to sparknotes. On nofear, the reference is on act 2 scene 2 page 13.
DeleteI can see the SEE in your SEE method paper (no pun intended)even though it is blury, but you have it and thats the importent part.
